IGL vs Gtechniq vs Ceramic Pro vs CQuartz

A non-technical comparison of the major ceramic coating brands — what each is best at and which has real warranty backstops.

The brand matters less than you think

Before comparing the major coating brands, the most useful thing to understand is that the brand is not the main driver of how your coating performs. All four of these are reputable, professional-grade products that will protect your paint well when applied correctly. The single biggest factor in whether your coating lasts five years or fails in six months is the installer’s prep and application, not the logo on the bottle — a point covered in our ceramic coating mistakes post.

That said, the brands do differ in their warranty structures, their certification programs, and their availability, and those differences are worth knowing. Here is a non-technical comparison of the four names you will encounter most often.

Ceramic Pro

Ceramic Pro is the most heavily marketed and arguably the most consumer-recognizable brand, built around a strong certification and warranty program. Its defining feature is the manufacturer-backed warranty: when applied by a certified installer and registered, the coating carries a documented warranty, with tiers (often marketed by year length) that scale with the number of layers applied.

What this means for you: Ceramic Pro is the brand to consider if a formal, registrable, transferable warranty is important to you — for example, on a high-value car or one you intend to sell. The trade-off is that the certification and warranty structure tends to come with premium pricing. You are partly paying for the warranty backstop and the brand recognition. The product itself is solid; the differentiator is the formalized warranty system.

Gtechniq

Gtechniq is a British brand with a strong reputation among enthusiasts and professional detailers, known for its product line covering different durability tiers (Crystal Serum Light for the consumer-pro range, Crystal Serum Ultra as an installer-only flagship). Its flagship coatings are well-regarded for hardness, gloss, and chemical resistance.

What this means for you: Gtechniq is a favorite of detailers who care about the finish and performance and want a respected, proven product. The installer-only flagship requires an accredited detailer, which is itself a quality signal — you cannot buy the top product over the counter and apply it badly. Warranty backing exists for the accredited-installer products. Choose Gtechniq if you want a coating with a strong performance reputation applied by a detailer serious enough to be accredited for it.

CQuartz (CarPro)

CQuartz, made by CarPro, is another enthusiast and professional favorite, spanning consumer products up to the installer-only CQuartz Finest+. It is widely praised for gloss, slickness, and ease of maintenance, and it has a large, devoted following among working detailers.

What this means for you: CQuartz, particularly the Finest+ installer tier, is often chosen by detailers who prioritize the look and feel of the finish. Like Gtechniq, the top tier is restricted to trained installers and carries warranty backing through the installer program. It tends to be competitively priced for the performance, which makes it a strong value pick among the premium brands. Choose it if you want a high-gloss, well-loved coating without necessarily paying top-of-market.

IGL Coatings

IGL is a Malaysian brand that has earned a strong reputation, with an emphasis on eco-friendly, lower-VOC chemistry alongside competitive performance. It offers a range of coatings (Kenzo and Quartz among them) and a certified-installer warranty program.

What this means for you: IGL is worth considering if its lower-VOC, more environmentally conscious chemistry appeals to you, or if it is the brand your trusted local installer is certified in. It performs comparably to the others and carries warranty backing through certified installers, often at a competitive price. Choose it for the eco-conscious angle or because a detailer you already trust is certified in it.

How to actually choose

Given that all four are good products, the practical decision factors, in order:

  1. The installer first, brand second. A great installer using any of these four will give you a far better result than a mediocre installer using the “best” brand. Find the operator who does real correction and prep — see how to choose a detailer — then use whichever brand they are certified in.
  2. Warranty needs. If a formal, registrable warranty matters (high-value car, planning to sell), Ceramic Pro’s program is the most consumer-oriented. The installer-only tiers of the others also carry warranties through their certification programs.
  3. What your trusted installer is certified in. Certification means the installer was trained on that product’s application. A detailer using a brand they are certified in is a better bet than one using a “better” brand they are not trained on.
  4. Budget and finish preference as tie-breakers. CQuartz and IGL often offer strong value; Gtechniq and CQuartz are favored for finish; IGL for eco-chemistry.

Do not agonize over the brand. Spend that energy vetting the installer, because that is where the actual performance comes from. For what a coating costs across tiers, see the ceramic coating cost guide.
